I wanted to share some compelling information about the positive impact of soccer on children's health and well- being, especially within underserved and under- resourced communities. A recent report from the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition highlights that participation in youth sports offers both immediate and long-term benefits for young people, their families, and the wider community. The findings are truly remarkable: 80% of parents surveyed believe that sports have significantly helped their children develop crucial life skills such as discipline, dedication, and the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
This sentiment is strongly supported by research, which consistently demonstrates that involvement in sports is linked to improved teamwork, enhanced time management, stronger social skills, and greater self-control. Furthermore, children who engage in youth sports tend to exhibit higher levels of academic achievement and leadership qualities. It's also noteworthy that high school athletes are more likely to attend and graduate from a four-year college, underscoring the long-term advantages of such participation.
At the Cherokee Youth Foundation (CYF), we are committed to making these benefits a reality through our investment in youth, their families, and our communities. We believe that providing opportunities for children to participate in soccer can truly transform lives.
